Joker OFC (Joker Ultimate) Solver & Rules

Close-up of a pineapple crown

Joker OFC (often called Joker Ultimate) is a Pineapple Open Face Chinese Poker variant played with a 54-card deck: a standard 52-card deck plus 2 jokers acting as wildcards that complete the strongest hand short of five of a kind (five of a kind does not exist). It is the standard ruleset on major online OFC apps and many Japanese OFC tournaments. OFC Oracle's Fantasyland solver already supports joker hands exactly; full street support is in development.

What Joker OFC (Joker Ultimate) is

Joker OFC — commonly called Joker Ultimate or Joker Ultimate Pineapple — is a variant of Pineapple Open Face Chinese Poker played with a 54-card deck: the standard 52 cards plus 2 jokers. Every other structural rule of Pineapple OFC still applies: three rows (top 3, middle 5, bottom 5), an opening 5-card deal, four rounds of draw-3/place-2/discard-1, and the requirement that bottom ≥ middle ≥ top in hand strength or the hand fouls.

The variant has become a de facto standard in a large part of the Japanese OFC scene: major online OFC apps' Joker Ultimate lineage, JOPT-affiliated tournaments, and many amusement-venue (アミューズ店) events run on 2-joker Pineapple OFC rules. At the same time, rulebooks and some live tables in Japan still describe the joker-less Progressive ruleset, so Japan currently has two informal layers — online/tournament play trending toward jokers-included, and rulebook/live play more often joker-less. Confirm the specific event's rules before you sit down.

How the joker works as a wildcard

Each joker is a full wildcard. It can represent any rank and any suit — including standing in for a card that duplicates one already placed elsewhere on the board — whichever assignment produces the strongest hand for that row. This is different from a "bug" (a limited wildcard that can only complete straights and flushes, or act as an ace); a true joker in Joker Ultimate has no such restriction.

There is one cap: five of a kind does not exist in this solver's rule set. A joker never turns a row into five cards of one rank; it completes the strongest hand short of that. For example, A A A A + joker is four aces with a king kicker.

When the strongest reading would foul. The solver first resolves each row to its strongest hand. Only if that makes the board foul does it re-read the jokers: the bottom is fixed at its strongest, the middle becomes the strongest hand no higher than the bottom, and the top becomes the strongest hand no higher than the middle. For example, with a pair of 3s in the middle and Joker-9-3 on top, the joker reads as a 3, the top is a pair of 3s, and the hand does not foul. A board that fouls under every reading still fouls. Rule sets can differ between apps, so confirm how your game treats this.

What jokers change about Fantasyland

Jokers interact with Fantasyland (FL) in the ways below:

  • Entry. FL entry thresholds (commonly QQ = 14 cards, KK = 15 cards, AA = 16 cards, trips = 17 cards under the Progressive standard) still apply in joker games, but a joker can help you make the qualifying hand — for example, completing a pair of queens on the top row — which changes how often and how strongly you enter.
  • Staying. Under this solver's rule set for Joker Ultimate, you stay in Fantasyland with top-row trips or bottom-row quads or better (a middle-row full house or better does not keep you in), and you are dealt the same number of cards as you entered with.
  • Placement. Once you're in Fantasyland with a joker in hand, the optimal top/middle/bottom split now has to account for where the wildcard is most valuable — often a very different answer than a joker-less 13–17 card hand, since a joker can push a row all the way to four of a kind or a very strong top pair, and the solver has to weigh those options exactly rather than by rule of thumb.

This is exactly the kind of static-hand, exact-enumeration problem a Fantasyland solver is built to answer — the wildcard just expands the search space the solver has to check.

Where OFC Oracle stands on joker support

OFC Oracle's free Fantasyland solver already evaluates joker hands exactly: give it your 13–17 card Fantasyland deal, jokers included, and it searches every legal top/middle/bottom split — with the joker(s) assigned to whichever rank and suit produces the best result — to find the optimal placement.

Full-street joker support (i.e., joker-aware guidance across all four Pineapple streets, not just the Fantasyland hand) is part of the same full-hand advisor effort described in our full-hand OFC solver article, and is currently in development.

FAQ

What is Joker OFC / Joker Ultimate?

It's a Pineapple OFC variant that adds 2 jokers to the standard 52-card deck (54 cards total). Each joker is a full wildcard that can represent any rank and suit, but it never makes five of a kind: it completes the strongest hand short of that.

How many jokers are used, and how do they behave?

Two jokers are added to the deck. Each acts as a complete wildcard — it can stand in for any card, including duplicating a card already visible on the board, to complete the strongest possible hand in that row.

Does a joker enable five of a kind?

No. Under this solver's rule set, five of a kind does not exist. When a joker would make five cards of one rank, it becomes the strongest hand short of that — for example, A A A A + joker is four aces with a king kicker. Rule sets can differ between apps, so confirm yours.

Does OFC Oracle support joker hands?

Yes — the free Fantasyland solver evaluates joker hands (13–17 cards, including jokers) with exact wildcard evaluation today. Full-street joker support is in development as part of the full-hand advisor.

Are joker rules the same everywhere in Japan?

No. Japan currently has two informal layers: online platforms and tournaments (major online OFC apps, JOPT-affiliated, and amusement-venue events) have largely standardized on 2-joker Pineapple OFC, while rulebooks and some live settings still describe the joker-less Progressive ruleset. Always confirm the house rules before playing.
